Fes – The Spiritual Heart of Morocco
Today we dive deep into the soul of Fes with a guided walking tour through the medieval maze of Fes el-Bali. Step back in time as we visit ancient madrasas, marvel at the architecture of the Al Quaraouiyine University, and watch the colorful leatherwork of the Chouara Tanneries. Fes – Ifrane – Midelt – Merzouga (Sahara Desert)
We leave the city behind and journey through the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping in Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco,” known for its European-style chalets and clean, mountain air. We’ll continue through cedar forests near Azrou, where wild monkeys may come to greet us. After a scenic lunch in Midelt, we descend into the vast Ziz Valley, a lush ribbon of palm trees and kasbahs. By late afternoon, we arrive in Merzouga, on the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. From here, we mount our camels and ride into the golden desert, catching the sunset as we reach our camp. After dinner, we’ll gather around the fire, enjoying music and dancing under a sky full of stars.

Day 6:
Merzouga Desert Exploration
After a peaceful morning and breakfast in the camp, we set out to explore the desert by 4×4. Our first stop is Khamlia, a small village where we’ll enjoy a private performance of traditional Gnawa music — spiritual, rhythmic, and deeply moving. We’ll then visit local nomad families, learning about their lifestyle and hospitality. Lunch will be served in the nearby town of Rissani, where we’ll savor a delicious Berber pizza before heading back to Merzouga. You may choose to ride camels again, or relax at your camp and watch the sunset from the top of the dunes. Another night of music, storytelling, and stargazing awaits in the heart of the Sahara.

Day 7:
Merzouga – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley
We say goodbye to the desert and travel toward the dramatic landscapes of southern Morocco. Our route takes us through changing scenery until we reach the towering cliffs of the Todra Gorges, a favorite among rock climbers. We’ll take time to walk between the canyon walls and dip our feet into the cool mountain stream below. From there, we continue through Berber villages and winding mountain roads to the beautiful Dades Valley, where the red rock formations glow in the afternoon sun. Tonight, we stay in a charming kasbah overlooking the valley.
-
Day 8:
Dades Valley – Aït Benhaddou – Marrakech
After breakfast, we travel through the Valley of the Roses and into the heart of Ouarzazate, often called “The Hollywood of Morocco.” We’ll stop by the famous film studios, then continue to the iconic Aït Benhaddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site featured in movies like Gladiator and Game of Thrones. We’ll explore the ancient fortified village before beginning our ascent over the High Atlas Mountains via the breathtaking Tizi n’Tichka Pass.
