4-day Sahara Desert Tour from Marrakech to Erg Chigaga

Marrakech – Atlas Mountains – Ouarzazate – Zagora

After enjoying a traditional Moroccan breakfast in Marrakech, we set out early for the journey to the High Atlas Mountains, one of the most scenic parts of Morocco. Along the way, we’ll stop at the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, the highest point in the mountains, offering panoramic views of the valleys and rugged terrain below. This dramatic landscape is the perfect backdrop for some stunning photos.

Continuing on, we drive towards Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa” due to its role as a filming location for many famous movies. Here, you can explore the Kasbah Taourirt or, if time allows, visit the Atlas Film Studios. After lunch, we continue our drive to Zagora, a small desert town that marks the gateway to the Sahara.

Upon arriving in Zagora, we’ll check in to a charming riad where we’ll spend the night in comfort, surrounded by the tranquility of the desert. Enjoy a delicious traditional Moroccan dinner before relaxing for the night.

Zagora – Draa Valley – Mhamid – Erg Chigaga

After breakfast, we leave Zagora behind and begin our journey through the stunning Draa Valley, known for its lush palm groves and picturesque kasbahs. As we drive along the valley, you’ll witness the beauty of ancient mud-brick villages and the rich agricultural landscape.

We then continue to Mhamid, the last town before the vast desert stretches of Erg Chigaga. This is where your desert adventure truly begins. From here, we embark on a camel trek into the Erg Chigaga dunes, one of the largest and most remote sand dunes in Morocco. As you ride the camels, you’ll experience the serene beauty of the desert, and once you reach the dunes, you’ll witness an unforgettable desert sunset as the colors of the sand shift with the setting sun.

In the evening, we return to a desert camp nestled in the dunes, where you’ll enjoy a traditional Berber dinner accompanied by authentic Berber music. Spend the night in the quiet calm of the desert, under a blanket of stars.

Erg Chigaga Desert Exploration – 4x4 Desert Excursion

Start the day early with a magical sunrise camel trek, where you can watch the first light of day spread across the vast dunes. After returning to camp for a hearty breakfast, we begin a 4×4 desert excursion to explore the surrounding landscapes. You’ll visit Iriqui Lake, a seasonal lake that adds an unexpected contrast to the surrounding desert, and the Draa Riverbed, known for its prehistoric fossils and unique desert ecosystem.

During the trip, you’ll also have the option to visit Nomadic Berber families and learn about their traditional way of life, gaining insight into the daily rhythms of desert living.

In the afternoon, we return to the desert camp to relax before another camel trek to witness a spectacular sunset over the dunes. Enjoy a traditional dinner at the camp, and spend another peaceful night in the desert, reflecting on your desert adventure.

Erg Chigaga – Foum Zguid – Marrakech

After breakfast, we begin our journey back to Marrakech, traveling through the remote village of Foum Zguid for a break and to explore the area. This village offers a glimpse into life in southern Morocco, and you’ll have time to take photos of the surrounding desert landscapes.

We continue through the Atlas Mountains, enjoying the ever-changing scenery as we make our way back to Marrakech, arriving in the late afternoon. Your Sahara desert adventure concludes with a drop-off at your accommodation in Marrakech, filled with memories of the unforgettable landscapes and experiences you’ve had in the Moroccan desert.
